Neon 80's Nails - Nail Art

First of all I'd like to apologise for my absence yesterday, my internet disappeared off for a day and I hadn't yet scheduled the post I had planned. It's just as well really as I have decided to take a slightly different route with it so now I have the weekend to tweek a few things ready for next week!

Anyway, today I have some 80's/90's style nails for you.
They weren't intended to be 80's/90's it just happened that way, but I really liked them anyway.

I used Barry M Matt White as the base then taped off random triangles with normal cellotape and used China Glaze Hang-Ten Toes and Surfin' For Boys on alternate nails. When that was dry I taped off the lines and used Barry M Black. I felt it needed a bit of sparkle so I added some silver Glequins from the Born Pretty Store (review HERE) and finished with a coat of Seche Vite.

Like I said, I never intended for them to have an 80's/90's feel at all. It started as an abstract colour blocking idea I had but I just love the way it turned out. They remind me a bit of the Misfits from Jem and the Holograms!

Makeup Savvy 15 Day Nail Challenge - Day 2 - Pattern

Day 2 of the Makeup Savvy 15 Day Nail Challenge is Pattern.
When I think of pattern I always think of tribal prints. We studied them in Art when I was in senior school, I honestly don't remember much about it other than I loved the homework we got assigned which was to draw our house using the different patterns to represent texture. It's was so therapeutic.
I've been avoiding trying Tribal Nails for ages as I was quite frankly intimidated by the thought of that much detail on such a tiny surface and making it look good!
So for my first attempt I tried to keep it simple.

I used two coats of Barry M Shocking Pink as my base colour then added the pattern using Barry M Black, Gold Foil and a nameless White that came from a french manicure set I was given.

It's wonky and imperfect but I like it!
Tomorrows theme is Chic and I have no idea what to do!

You don't have to have a blog to enter and you don't even have to join in for everyday, Fee from Makeup Savvy has explained what to do if you don't have a blog HERE and has also revealed the prizes you could win!

Water Colouring - NOTN

If I know I have a night out coming up I always try to plan my manicure to match my outfit. Sad maybe, but as a nail person it's just as important to me as having the right pair of shoes, and last nights NOTN just happened to be inspired by a new pair of shoes and earrings I bought recently.

Here are the nails...

And here is my inspiration.

I was mostly inspired by the mix of colours, but I also really liked the random smudgy pattern on the shoes.
I had a look around on Google and YouTube for a few different techniques I could try to achieve something similar and decided on water colouring.

The water colouring technique is where you mix your chosen colours with some acetone to water the colour down, then apply random blobs to your nail. I used a tutorial by The Polished Mummy HERE.

I used two coats of white polish for the base then for the water colouring I used Barry M Black, China Glaze  Sun Kissed, Love's A Beach, Splish Splash and Beach Cruise-R from the Summer Neons Collection.
I was really happy with how they turned out, but I did actually prefer my right hand as it seemed to be more pink even though I added the colours in the same order.

I thought I'd add a close up of my right hand too as I liked it so much!
No thumb though as I still can't paint it and it's not very attractive to look at either.

This look was so easy to do using the tutorial and has me thinking up loads of other colour combinations which I'm looking forward to trying out.
